Swapping PID in older Pit Boss 820

Not sure how this turned out for you, but I wanted to mention checking eBay some. I looked once or twice a day for about 2-3 weeks and ended up finding a RecTec wifi controller for 65 bucks.

    Cheap stable controller

For anyone interested, turning the P setting down did help a little, but as it got colder it seemed to help less. I did end up getting a RecTec wifi controller on eBay, and it looks to be working very well when comparing to my Tappecue.

Yeah, I've heard the RecTec is really nice. Can you let me know what they tell you? I had read in a couple places that they weren't selling the controllers anymore without some kind of proof of purchase, but I don't know if it's actually true.

I can't comment on either of those controllers, but I'm in a similar situation with an 820D3 and I think I'm going to try this: https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/threads/pit-boss-700-fb-upgrade-to-wifi-success.279950/

    Cheap stable controller

Thanks for the suggestion. Have you ever heard of someone using the Grilla controller in a pit boss? I just ask because I'm trying to figure out if I'd need the RTD probe from them as well. I don't mind getting creative with the wires, I just didn't know if every RTD probe works with every...

    Cheap stable controller

Hey all, I have a PB 820D3 and I love the grill features, but the temp swings can be pretty bad even after patiently adjusting my P setting for each cook (50-70 degree swings). It is also consistently 20-25 degrees hotter than the controller believes when putting a temp probe right beside the...
