    I have seen butcher paper used to wrap just like one would use foil-  works good for low and slow- a hot and fast cook might ignite it;)

    thanks again all for your assistance... I should have added, the 'rind' in question is translucent (like a venison salami rind)  rubbery and almost elastic in nature.
