So I got this smoker up and running... wife decided a shoulder was a good victim and in her words "if it doesn't work, we can order Chinese food"...
Well it worked ok... consensus was to have it like a roast rork, sliced and not pulled. I rubbed it with a cubbard rub (whatever was on the shelf)...

35,000 BTU and I can hit 400 degrees or throttle back to 180ish...

Hi, the racks are all removable (the angle is welded in, but the racks just sit on the agle iron slides). Infact on one of his other smokers he did the hooks across the top to hang suff as well. The total box is 48" tall, take away the foot or so for the bottom burner chamber and that leaves...
Thanks for all the comments...I am pretty excited. I also got a pickup load of applewood from my brother-in-law in Minnesota. Had to drop half of it with Nephew to have room to load the smoker. Glad I did that road trip last weekend...and missed the snow.

OK, just brought home my new smoker. My nephew in Iowa City built it (hence the name "Hawkeye Special" - he thought a guy from Alabama ought to have that )
The smoke box is 48" high x about 22" wide and deep. Contruction is of 14 ga bent steel for the box, 12 ga for the top and door and 1/4"...
Yes, we are liking it so far. A big change from MN, but no snow to shovel or blow is nice. Family is a long way off, so that makes for some long road trips with the kids. From Michigan? We have a number of friends from there that moved down. At least there is hockey here :) Kids like that...
Hey everyone, I moved down to Alabama from Minnesota about a year ago (working for the Army). Love all the smokers going in the neighborhood...so decided to get one put together. I have a metal worker relative that is building it...sort of an A-2 model...making some changes to his. It will be...
