Can you tell me where you bought or made that support for the cast iron pan? I'm looking for something like that to replace the original chip tray
It doesn't happen often, but i occasionally run in space issues between my cast iron pan and the existing water tray if the chunk is too big
Thank...
couple things I've noticed with my masterbuilt 230s
1) the paint will peel after a couple cooks - I'm dealing with this by scraping the peeling paint off with a plastic drywall knife and reseasoning every time I do this.
2) the included chip tray SUCKS (I can't stress this enough) - I went out...
I ended up getting a plastic scraper and cleaning all the peeling paint out and seasoning with Pam spray. After every cook I wipe the walls down (wash the grates) and give a light spritz of Pam before I close it up.
Seems to be working so far
It is painted steel on the inside - it's been "bubbling" and cracking starting with the last few smokes, just didn't come off the steel until I cleaned the racks after the last cook. (the lower section for the burner and chunk pan is fine - which is odd, since that would be the higher temp...
Only done a couple of cooks with this smoker, I noticed after the last two cooks that there was some flaking and bubbling around the back wall and sides of the smoker. When I went to clean the grates after yesterday's cook (turkey breast and baby back ribs - temp kept between 225-250 for about 6...
Thanks for all the advice - after talking with Home Depot, they decided to replace the unit as defective. Here's the new one with the modifications already made! (Decided not to install the arm that secures the propane tank so the cover fits better.
12 inch cast iron pan for the chips/chunks -...
I have seen a lot of suggestions about using a cast iron pan directly over the chip tray. Most people have been suggesting a 10 inch which can be found at walmart/target for about 15 bucks.
I've got a 12 inch myself that I intend to use (a little big, but it was free). All I need to do is saw...
Again - thanks for the advice.
I'm actually having to take back the smoker to Home depot and exchange it for another one. I noticed some serious rust patches forming around the burner and on the smoker chamber door. Anyone else have this problem and more importantly, how do i prevent it? (Or...
I've already got the thermometer on order and got a 12 inch cast iron pan from family (just have to cut off part of the handle, it's a little too long)
I did try wrapping the chip pan in foil and that seemed to go a long way towards controlling the temp
Thanks for the advice!
Wife got me the Masterbuilt 230S smoker for father's day (already assembled and smoked a couple racks of ribs with a mix of hickory and cherry - YUMM)
obviously, first smoke with the unit had a couple of issues - heat control was one - the unit struggled to stay around the 225 that I was trying...
