We survived the fire. The CZU Lightning Complex fire got less than a mile from our house. I evacuated the wife and kids and went back and was home during the whole ordeal. I worked with fire and police to make our neighborhood safe and defensible.

Sounds like I should hang onto it for smoking. I heat my house with wood so it would end up in the woodshed otherwise.

yesterday I picked up two drums that are unlined. They had rubbing alcohol in them so they should be safe to use for a smoker build.

So in order to remove the liner do I need to get the barrel hot beforehand? Has anyone tried to remove the liner using Comet and Scotchbrite *without* heating the liner first?

I helped some friends replace old wood stoves with newer stoves the last couple of years. I took the old stoves in to a scrap yard for cash. before I brought them in a harvested the fire brick out and hung on to it. They aren't as thick as the bricks in the video but i figure they would work...

That video was perfect. His oven/smoker is very impressive.
He didn't need to add buttresses because his oven is domed. You are proposing straight walls with a domed ceiling so you would need buttressing.
