IMHO- the issue with chips with these types of smokers is at the 225-250 range, chips will do fine (although not smoke as long as chunks I have found). My issue has been above 250, like when smoking chicken, the higher temp tends to ingite the chips, which leads to flare up, boiling water pan...
Hey Mpzee-
I have a GOSM prop smoker and I'm sure the dial on the MB is just as crappy (read, lots of wiggle when moving left or right). At first I just pulled it off when I smoked, but then replaced it with a generic knob with a set-screw.
What will really help is adding a needle valve in...
Hey Zmann,
Love my prop-vert. Heat source wise, most of the burners are high enough that heat is not an issue below. If you're concerned, a paver block below will block the heat.
The biggest issue is grease dripping. Most of these leak like a russian sub, and oil spots are a pain. I would...
Fall off the bone?? Blasphemy!! LOL!! I agree. Fall off the bone may not win me a big ol’ KCBS trophy. But in the court of public opinion, FOTB ribs sure make for happy friends and family.
Like S2K9K, I could not be more pleased with my GOSM 3405BGW. After adding the needle valve, I too can go as low as 185.
Consider that it's $139 now on walmart.com (landman is discontinuing that model of a more expensive model soon), it's a great deal.
See my review...
See my review in the review section. I have the 3405BGW also. I've added a needle valve and ordered a cover a 4th rack from landman. The one at Walmart is the EXACT same model landman sell (I called Landman and asked) and it's way cheaper there.
The needle valve mod was done by splicing right...
I am pleased as punch with this smoker so far. Yesterday in 95 degrees, I smoked 3 Cornish hens and easily maintained a 275 temp. Although its 90 today with some wind gust, I'm easily maintaining a 225-230 temp merely by adjusting the needle valve and the top vent and keeping a great TBS with...
Well Mod #1 complete. I did add a needle vale and was able to keep a pretty low flame, even with the door open and some wind. Tomorrow's forecast is 95 so I'll really put this to the test!
Thanks for all the advice so far!!
What's the point of buying something new if you can start tearing it apart right away, right? I installed the needle valve and was able to keep a pretty low flame even with the door open and on a windy day here in the windy city. I imagine with door closed I'll be able to take it even lower. Mod...
