First use - Smoke Vault 24"..........had some issues, could use some input (w/ pics)

May be a day late & dollar short.....but.....just saw an old thread of mine pop to the top - I owned this unit for a few years (4?) & changed about a year ago but I did learn a bit about using this unit. The first thing I would say is a needle valve is a requirement, the factory knob is...

Landmann 3895GWLA questions & a great needle valve.............

Regulators can sometimes cause a problem also, single stage regulators are known to fluctuate some but a needle valve is almost a requirement as the supplied knobs are generally pretty gross in their adjustments.

Landmann 3895GWLA questions & a great needle valve.............

It goes between the regulator & the gas line. Nutshell it's (from tank to hose) Regulator -> Needle valve -> gas line to smoker Here's a picture of the regulator with a needle valve, in my case I changed this needle valve with the one I linked to above. In my particular case it required a 1/4"...

Landmann 3895GWLA questions & a great needle valve.............

Don't post much (not much to add ) but I continue to read all the time. Recently "upgraded" from a Smoke Vault to the above Landmann. Still not 100% certain it's an upgrade but my old unit it going to my oldest so that's a positive. Anyway as those of us with some propane experience know the...

A bit of general help with pellet units...........

That's kind of the point/advantage. Weber has been in business a long time & they continue to make parts for early model grills (they don't change too much either). Not many brands where you can get parts for a 15 year old grill. It's definitely a comfort factor, no matter what comes up a) Weber...

A bit of general help with pellet units...........

That's my point............I know they fail (I'm okay with that) & you can work around it but it's not a "go to Home Depot" & replace part (or order online). Guess I'm just spoiled by the ease of which one can acquire parts for a Weber.

A bit of general help with pellet units...........

That's my plan for now.........I'll see how things go as they go more mainstream. Not like my weber will die anytime soon I have spent way too much time reading pelletheads, that's one of the places that helped me build my short list. Thanks again for the input, I appreciate it.

A bit of general help with pellet units...........

I hadn't read or thought about using a firestarter - lol - too obvious I guess. I figured I'd have to go aftermarket - just curious if the replacements were as known as say the controllers. Example is the PID used in the SSII is a straight up unit, easy to find a replacement......wondering the...

A bit of general help with pellet units...........

If anyone has any input on pellet grills in general I'd appreciate it. This isn't another "what should I buy" but more along the lines of what to expect. Background - I've been using a Weber gasser and a standalone smoker (WSM & propane). I'd like to combine the two as well as get a bit more...

    Help me upgrade my smoker

Well that's why I keep coming back here - have no knowledge to impart, but I get to read a lot of solid advice...............which worked real well two years ago when I was looking for a propane smoker. I do grill 3-7 times a week and smoke maybe once a month = FEC's with a charbroiler would be...

    Help me upgrade my smoker

Yeah....if they'd only let us design a unit - maybe I'd find one that was 100% perfect   I also noticed it "only" has a 20lb hopper. Depending on the person - given the FEC's can do 4 or so  butts, 8 racks, and some others it's not the largest but it will work for me.

    Help me upgrade my smoker

I'd say middle price of the American made units - $1,500 for the 500 & $2,500 for the 1000. They have two "entry level" smokers, see above.   OP - In the same position you are, looking to replace my propane smoker (& grill). So far the Fast Eddy's are by far the most versatile. Haven't found...

First use - Smoke Vault 24"..........had some issues, could use some input (w/ pics)

I remember reading that thread, it pushed me in the direction of Camp Chef. That replacement & the melted replacement = good customer service, I viewed that as a major positive. Some say I have "issues" ............Propane forum + search "smoke vault" = 18 pages of results, I read them all...

First use - Smoke Vault 24"..........had some issues, could use some input (w/ pics)

Wow, 1/64" - that's pretty tough. That's what I used, take up slack & just move it as little as possible...............guess I need better fine motor skills I did open the door & adjust visually - just enough to see a change in the flame.   Some might call them problems, I prefer to think of...

First use - Smoke Vault 24"..........had some issues, could use some input (w/ pics)

First - to everyone - thanks, I really appreciate the input.   Hopefully it won't stay that clean long. That's my focus now, why is the flame yellow between MED & LO - that doesn't seem right to me. The flickers of yellow in the pics above are from the breeze, but that's not the case for the...
