I'm by no means an expert. If I had to guess I would say you may have more bottom heat vs. a lot of smokers that have top heat. If you keep it like that and it were me, I would make sure I have good draw with a large smoke stack diameter and length. Like I said though, I'm not an expert so take...

Probably lots of different opinions, but based on some readings I set the top of my opening at grate level.

Not sure yet, but I hope to find out during the next week.

My name is Andy and I live in Arlington Texas. I loved to smoke brisket and ribs. I am in the process of building my first smoker that will replace my small cheap store bought smoker. I am grateful to have found this site.

I am building a smoker out of 20" pipe and using round pipe for the legs. When doing so would I need to cut an angle on the portion of the leg I weld to the smoker? Below is how I plan to make the legs.
