I allowed the reverse flow plates to be welded to the top edge of the firebox and to be welded about 2 inches below the door openings with a gradual slope down hill to allow the grease drippings to flow down to the drain. So the cut had to be below the doors. 2 - 3 inches below the doors worked perfect.
