Hey All - I'm a newbie here and checked in over at roll call just a little bit ago. I've been reading the forums for several weeks now and have searched endlessly for and answer but just haven't found it yet so I am turning to the good people here and asking my own question. While I haven't found exactly what I'm looking for I have learned a ton of other things along the way so there's no harm there for sure. I have a horizontal smoker with a side firebox. The firebox measures roughly 18" x 18". One of the next mods I was going to make was building a charcoal basket (if that is considered a mod or not). I have the materials to create a basket that is 12x12x6 and am planning to add some "feet" to it in order to get it up off the sides and provide plenty of airflow around the basket. My question is, is that size basket sufficient or should it be larger to fill up more of the space in the firebox? Do I build a bigger one just because I can and is it necessary? Looking for any thoughts and ideas from those that know or might have had the same question. Thanks.
