I just started smoking 2 weeks ago and have attempted a brisket and pork shoulder. I curbed my brinkman offset smoker from my neighbor who was just throwing it out since he got a new fancy smoker. I grew up in Michigan and my dad smoked a turkey every thanksgiving for as long as I can remember (along with ham for Christmas and easter and brisket all summer long). I am in baton rouge, LA now with 3 kids. My oldest daughter (6) is a true carnivore and LOVES everything I put on the grill. She even loved my first brisket which was completely tough...she is good for a nice ego boost.
I have been reading everything I can about smoking and despite some moderate results, love just hanging out while the meat is cooking. I look forward to improving and hopefully putting some meals on the table that are at least close to what dad did.
