Well my 8 yr. old daughter was in the hospital with a staph infection in her left shoulder socket for the last week. Glad to report she is back home and doing much better! She will have to wear a anti-biotic pump in a fany pack for the next month and a half, but she is back to her silly self.

So I asked her what she wanted me to cook for her first meal home, and in true BBQ fashion she saind RIBS! Let the rib fest begin!

I keep seeing the brown sugar melt being used so I figured I would give it a try.

Figured if I was gonna fire up the WSM I wasn't going to let the bottom rack go to waste..... so a couple of chuckies came along for the ride.

Chuckies and the skirts that I trimed off of the spare ribs.

Everybody into the pool! Chuckies are down below. You can really see the melted brown sugar on the spares.... didn't put any on the skirts.

Bout 4 1/2 hrs. in, noticed the spares were cooking a little fast, so went ahead and glazed them with a rasberry chipoltle mix I concocted.

Finished up at around 5 1/2 hrs.

Glad to hear your daughter is better. Also looks like a great smoke.

Now that looks awesome and I'm glad to hear your daughter is doing well. Hope she enjoyed the ribs and continues to get better

Always good to have your kids home and healthy!

And I'm sure knowing you were going to prepare a feast like that, it makes it that much nicer to come home.

Great looking Ribs!

I know it's been said several times -- but I too am glad your daughter is doing better.  Having a nearly eight year old daughter, I know how much love and worry flows at a time like that.  Good to know she is home, and on the road to being well.

And what a delicious homecoming -- ribs!  Great job on the Qview too!

Glad your daughter is home and doing better. No matter how you look at it,even ribs beats hands down the best hospital food (if there is such a thing!)

Got to put the brown sugar melt on my "to do" list, in my case, it will have to be the Splenda version of brown sugar.

Thank you all for the good wishes! Yeah you always wish you could change places with your kid when they have to go though stuff like that, but she was a trooper. She did really, really well, and the nurses said they were all fighting over who got to be her nurse on each shift... lol.

The ribs were great! I was a little worried the brown sugar would make them to sweet, but it really didn't. I did the usual yellow mustard, then my rub, then put 2/3 Cup of brown sugar on each rack of ribs. Let the sugar melt while I got the WSM fired up then tossed them on, started spritzing after 2 hrs., and put on my rasberry chipoltle glaze for the last hour.

Good to see she's ok! Good job on a gift of a smoke too.
Yeah you always wish you could change places with your kid when they have to go though stuff like that
Not to steal the thread but my son, Hunter, went into th ICU with RSV when he was six weeks old. It brought me to my knees and I wished to God I could take it from him if it meant I would have it the rest of my life...

Now I'm glad that your daughter is well and gettin better too. Now you have to smoke some ribs for her but have you thought about the nurses they love ribs too. I just say that for my wife is a nurse.
