I bought this termometer and have a question if anyone has it:

In the directions it states that if grilling/smoking use it as an instant read thermometer and not as a continuous read thermometer. It is okay to use it as a continuous thermometer in an oven, why not in a smoker? Has anyone used it in a smoker and left it in? I see the one review on it, the person sounds like they left it in. Could it hurt? I bought two hoping I could use one for the meat and one for the internal temp of the meat. I would have gotten the Maverick, but I had gift cards to Bass Pro. Thanks
