i converted my 55 gal drum smoker to electric using 2,1000 watt ge hot plates.i am going to use one for the smoke and one for heat. will the cords and units take the 180 deg heat with the units sitting on bricks or should i get some split wire shields like on car wires around engine?

I would get some sort of shields....Better safe than sorry!

i will either do that or add a round plate with two holes the size eyes above them so only the heating element is exposed to heat.

I don't know if this would work. Seems pretty cool.
