I've consumed lots of great smoked meats over the years but after years of looking I can't find a good restaurant in Southern California that serves good smoked meat. I'm now on a quest to learn how to be a smoker. Finally decided to purchase the WSM and start on the road to smoking. I will have lots of questions so be hang on and here we go.

Welcome to the SMF! :) We are glad to have you. If you have no good BBQ joints in your area, you know what type of business needs starting up....

Welcome to the site Ron, even if you had some good Q joints there most of them probably wouldn't seem that good after you learn how to smoke your own.

Received the 5 day course and have read most of it. I've been really busy trying to determine what smoker I will purchase and it looks like the Weber South Mountain for me.

Used to live in Kansa City....Leawood, KS to be exact and ate lots and lots of great meat at Gates and Bryants.

Still have a GTO but this one is not street legal. I drag race a 1965 Pontiac GTO

Welcome amigo,
Being from California, I would suggest watching Guy Fieri on the "triple D" on the food channel on Sunday, 2:00 central. He owns several resturaunts in CA not necessarily smoked food but worth looking into. Also did a lot of shows regarding smoked meat, from Kansas and Oklahoma, where we reside. Last weekend we went to a place in OK City, the Cattleman Cafe, which was featured in the triple D show Guy does. Awesome Steaks, straight from the stockyard.
I have his recipe book which has several mentions of good food in south CA.
Anyway, welcome!

We really like to have newbies here because they can bring in a new propective to how things are done. There's nothing like a new set of eyes to give and new way to make things that little differant to make things alittle better. So I hope you know about the Qview here.
Here's a link to photobucket it's free and easy to download pictures. Then if your really new to smoking Look up the E-course.
It's also free and it will give you the basics of smoking. So after all of that you just need to go grab something to smoke and if you have any question just post them here and we will answer it quickly so you don't have any mishaps with your smoke.

I am in Corona too - and I agree  - hard to find good smoked food! Especially beef.

I have a Masterbuilt electric signature series and a charcoal one. Both are great.

I cook beef ribs (Albertsons near my house on foothill is the best place), chicken, pork ribs and have just started briskets.

For great BBQ both the wife and I are spoiled by hoe cooking, otherwise its Lucielles by far and away, followed by a new place on hamner and hidden valley .
