Entry level Smoker

My name is Scott, just got my first smoker at age 41. It was built especially for my by some a friend of my parents. It is about 120 Gallons (5' x 2').

Just finished seasoning it and am ready to smoke all day tomorrow (New Year's Day). I ran a bundle of wood through it over the past 2 days and it looks tasty enough to sleep on right now!

I am looking forward to some great tips as well as sending pics of my successes and surely some fumbles.

So far, the plan is to smoke 9 racks of baby backs, 2 whole birds (chicken) some gator tail (possibly) and I want to put a lamb roast on there, but my wife has other plans for that, so I'll have to try that another time.

Any thoughts on putting some clams in the smoker??

This will be my first smoke, but I have a buddy that has been smokin for a few years to hold myt hand a bit during this one...

Looks great

Looks great but get some wheels under it before a strong wind comes up, By the way I have 2 feet of snow in my yard so stop teasing me. I don't know when the next time is that I am going to shovel my smoker out and use it and this one I have home is only my backup. I cant get to my good one until April or May. Winter in Wisconsin sucks. but the Mosquieto's are smaller.

Just keep posting and reading. Anything you will ever need to know is here

P.S. I hope you seasoned it before you used it for the first time!!!

Thanks for the tip! Actually it will be cemented into those pillars, and a wall will go around it underneath. The smoke you are seeing is the last bit of seasoning.. I spent the last 2 days running smoke through it..

Sorry about the teasing icon_smile.gif, but it is 82 degrees here now, and by Thursday it will dip to 53.. brrrrrr.. icon_wink.gif

Just checked my homepage and it is 20 degrees here, Cooking on the gas grill tonight, tenderloin with some of Dutches Wicked Good Beans. By the way is your mentor a member of SMF and if he is not get him to join, we need him too, force him if you have to, beer or mixed drinks may help in this . Good luck with your first smoke and may there be many more. This site will help with that of course a couple of bad ones will only make you better. there is no true success without many failures
