My Office were I work loves my Smoked whole chickens. Usually I smoke 2 5-7 pound chickens for 20 people but know They want me to smoke chickens for 172 people. My question is how many chickens would I need.

Thighs. Smoke thighs, pull them and serve as pulled chicken sandwiches. Figure 1-2 thighs per person, if serving with sides.

While chickens for groups is a pain. Someone won't get the cut they want and will complain.

Plus with the thighs you can smoke in several sessions if needed and then just reheat the day of. Serve sauce on the side for those who need that.

Thank you, I changed my mind from whole chickens to thighs and maybe some legs. It will be easier than whole chickens and I can smoke more at a time. And the sandwich idea is also great I never thought of that.

Thank you

Leg Quarters would be your best choice in my opinion, not knowing what you are smoking on.
