Well lit it up tonight for the first time. 3/4 of a bag of coal was a bit much.ran it up to 480°. I cut the coal amount in half and it held steady at 250 for two hours. I have a 4 inch intake hole in the bottom and still need to put a damper on that but I think it's going to work out just fine.will keep trying to figure it out

First off... yes a dampener is a must ... Maybe a little more details about the burn.... Did you light em all at once ? If so how ? lit to what stage ? do you know about the minion method ? I think it's going to be perfect once you figure out how it drives...

I made a damper for the intake and a smaller coal basket. Researched the minion method and I'm gonna give that a try. Maybe this weekend I'll fire it back up and figure things out.I'll snap some pics then.thanks for the advice and compliments

Not bad first run...it ran hotter than I would like. Was close to 290 most of the time. I need to seal better around the fire door and I'm going to lower the plate between fire box and cooking chamber reducing the amount of air being let in. But overall happy with the first time. .ribs tasted great!!
