For some reason I smile every time I type BS.   We are all interested in the  best smoking system known to man.

If it ain't got fire under it, it ain't smokin!

Ok,   For those who I haven't talked to via PM or text,  I"m Wes.   I live in the soon to be cold  mountains of North Carolina, US

I'm what some call middle age, with 3 boys and a wife who has put up with me for 30yrs.

I like putting faces to names.  Here's my ugly mug a couple years back building my wife a garage so she wouldn't have to scrape snow off her car anymore.  After 28 years I started feeling sorry for her.... :-)

Fire the smoker, bring a chair and pop the top on a cold one.  Here is to my brick smoking friends!

Thanks Gee.  I look forward to that meeting.   I've got some 180pf that we can share.   Clear as a bell and not from a store....   Thanks for your support the past  year and half.   It means more then you will ever know.

We did get to -14F last year.  Thats pretty damn cold my friend, even for a yankee.... :-)

Good evening port.

I used a stainless steel chimney cap.   I thought about galvanized but it 10-15 years it would need to be replaced.  I felt the stainless was worth the extra money.

This is probably the best picture I have.   You can buy these at the box stores, but not in stainless.   They come in different sizes to match flue liners.    The stainless ones you'll need to order online, or special order them from a box store.    You leave about 2in. of the flue liner exposed and it simply screws to it on the 4 corners.  Sorry, I don't have any close ups.   If you need a closer view, let me know and I 'll see if I can get a picture for you.

I bought the same cap stainless steal too. But i wanna see how you finished the process you inside the chimney

How long is your flue liner . I got 8 x 8 is that what you use and did you have to cut any liner off

I would like to see picture from the end of the top of your chamber doors until you finished it with the chimney and fule liner like how you builded throw your way up.

Good evening port.

Flue liners are a standard length.   I "think" they are 2 ft.   From the point I brought the cook chamber together,  I set one flue liner.

Once you get your cook chamber as tall as you'd like, you start stepping it down on all 4 sides 1in. at a time.     Before you close it up, you want to stucco  the stepped in part so the smoke will flow out smooth.

This is the last picture I have before finish.   The flue liner is set.   When you  step your  veneer brick into the flue liner  you want to leave a 1in. space between them.  This is for thermal expansion.   When you get to the stopping point, you close the top off.   You can go as high as you want.  The taller it is the faster it will draw.

I used 12X12 liners.  The reason I went this big was to match the fireplace beside it.   8X8 is plenty big enough.  Just step your brick down to  the size you need.   Get you liner and go to it.  The reason I say that is,   an 8X8 liner may actually be 7X7.   The diminutions they give you are before they kiln the liners.  They shrink big time.

I'd love to see what you have so far.   Start a thread so we can all enjoy your awesome smoker.

I hope this helps.    If you have questions, please ask.

Wes

heres update of my smoker. Im doing the steal angles and doors im doing the bottom now. Then going to get next angle and frame for my chamber also. Almost there . Thanks for your flue liner info.
Looks good.   Its a slow go.    Be patient.     Looking forward to seeing some awesome meat come out of it!

I have to admit the way you did your doors and frames how you build around it . It what i should have done before laying the firebrick. But its layed now so im working around it. I m going to use ankle bolts to bolt the frame into the brick . But the next part up for frames im going to put tabs . Im using your iidea on that by adding the tabs to the frame part on outside so the brick sits on it with the motor to be strong. I cant wait when its all done .

Hello Wes and glad this page was started. For a fairly new smoker i want to build my own BS on my back lot. I have no knowledge of how to do it but i do have motivation lots of bricks and some time to kill. Hope you all are in the teaching spirit.

Wes, I do not know where you get your strength and determination from,  if I may guess...Your Family!

I had dug a footing 36" down by hand (42'' wide x 7' 4'' along with 3 adolescents ) , rebar to specs (16" square grid) for block and poured an solid footing/foundation/slab.

I had laid 40 block with 800lbs of cement mix and mortar on top of the foundation. All is done in 4 weeks and my back is kicking my ass!!!. (spare time only)

Bottom line I am out of shape but feel better every time I get to go do my own project.

I deeply appreciate You, your information, your family history,  patients with al
l of us on the forum!

What a true leader for us to follow and I am 45 years of age!!!

Have a nice evening Wes W. and all Brick Smoker builders!                   (PS) This is my Daughter and I, she is currently  serving the USAF

Sounds good port.     Just be sure and give it time to cure before you fire it up.   You will love the final product of your labor.  I can't wait to see your first smoke.

Good evening nc

I'm not much of a teacher, but I think the group as a whole can get you something you will be proud of.  Welcome to the page.

When you get ready to start your project,  start and new thread and I'm sure someone here can answer any question you may have.
