BRINE, INJECT OR BOTH

Hello from Indiana.
Iv never brined turkey nor chicken. I normaly inject with a chicken broth mixture along with spices and a lil bit of maple syrup... I usually grill or smoke beer butt style on top of some honey brown ale stuffing apple, orange, and some lemon slices inside the bird
recently found out my wife cannot have gluten so out with the beer....I want to try a brine with adding the apple and citrus. But I also love injecting with my mixture as I said earlier.. can you both or is it one or the other?.
