Why wouldn't they want burnt ends? It's still part of the brisket for Pete's sake! But then I have seen a pork cook-off where the meat had to be sliced and not pulled. When I saw that in the rules I decided not to enter and save my entry fee and grocery money for something fun.
When I ran dutch oven competitions, I was had in the rules no extra stuff like greens etc. unless it was part of the entry-basically if it isn't meant to be et' leave it off the lid.
I dont know it was a IBCA sanctioned event kinda odd I thought. They also wanted the ribs parallel in the box and a total of 9 which threw us off as well. Messed up the whole look of the box.
