jerky from Walmart?

It's too cold to smoke anything, but I did see they had all the hunting items on clearance at walmart (while looking for ammo) and that included the jerky seasonings.  Are any of these worth trying?  I rarely try these kind of things, so i'm curious.  Anyone have experience with this?

What brands of seasoning ya lookin at ??

The Walmart stores around here carry the Eastman brand of seasonings.  I have never tried that brand so I cannot comment on how the taste though.

I'll take a better look and let you know the brand.  Pretty large variety back in the hunting section.

I've had the brand that is made by a dehydrator company.... can't remember the name but it was really good...

Dave, it was probably Nesco's, also one of my favorites. The problem I've had with some packaged jerky kits is if they have been on the stores shelves too long and they are nearer the sell by date then further the seasonings lose their kick and the jerky comes out bland. It's the same as having old spices in your home.

I've bought these on Amazon but only when I've had some Amazon credit and free shipping. Otherwise the spice packs are cheaper on the Nesco web site with better variety. Google Nesco American Harvest or go to

We've got Amaz Prime so the cost is close to the same... I just may have to get some.... It's been a couple of years but my neighbor used to make it and all I remember is how good it was.... 33.gif

I once tried one of the smoke salmon brines as a base since it had cure and it was for i think 5 Litters of brine for like 3 $ was cheaper then the salt, brown sugar and all the worrying about cure. I hear the jerky stuff can be to salty for some.....


I use the basic jerky brine of half soy sauce, half worcestershire sauce, pepper, cyan, brown sugar, maple syrup to taste, ussualy 1 tssp on each for me and NO salt  awsome all the time.
