I finally found a 250 gallon propane tank for my first RF build. Going to pick it up Monday and will remove old valves to fill with water. I have 1 bottle of Dawn dish soap and 5 lbs of TSP (Trisodium Phosphates) to add in with water. The smoker will be on a trailer, have double doors, and double racks. Here is the Feldon link for my build Link to BBQ Pit Calculator

I have all the tools needed for the build since I own a welding shop. The tires are rated at 780 lbs think 1 axle will be fine If not I have a match? In the picture is my plan that I have drawn up along with a cut list for the steel company.

Sorry here are pictures.

You going to get to work on it this weekend?

Gary

Not until next week Gary. Picking up tank Monday and plating will not be in until late week at the earliest.

What are your thoughts on load FB? My nephew and I are going 50/50 on this build and he wants a top load. I would rather have an end load and double wall the top.

You dont want a top load on that size firebox, top load are for small builds and small fireboxes. This is a different animal. with 17 3/4" door opening if he cant bend over to load that, get him a rocking chair.

(LMAO) Thanks Ribwizzard! 18" x 24" Door surely we can load with no problem plus I plan to make basket on a slider.

I would go end, not a big fan of top loaders

that will make it nice as well. I usually pull mine out when lighting the starter charcoal with lighter fluid and let the starter charcoal ash over before pushing the basket back into the firebox . I do that so all lighter fluid burns off outside the smoker.

If you don't mind me asking why do you use lighter fluid instead of a chimney?

I use both, I cut the grate out of the bottom of a chimney and set it on the firebox grate, poor it about half full and spray some lighter fluid on it , when it ashes over, I just left up the chimney and let it fall out the bottom.  In this pic, this is the first one I started experimenting with a tapered firebox rack, now I actually frame the rack in a tapered form.

I also plan to make this a quick biuid. My work is seasonal and we are heading into our busy season plus I really love my RC boats and not willing to give up weekend RC boating to build a smoker.
