I recently purchased a BGE to complement my CharBroil offset and Webber. I am having trouble with low temperature and smoke quality. When I bring the egg up to 225 my smoke is still white, even after an hour or so at temp. I am using a BGE fire starter and have set it in the middle of my lump . When you light off your egg do you ignite all the lump and then starve it down to temp? Or does the eggs just take a lot longer to warm up?

Thanks

Just light a few coals and let it slowly come up to temp, then start shutting the vents down before it gets to where you want it. Do not overshoot your target temp. It's harder in a kamado to bring the temp down than it is to increase it. Your best friend is practice and a bit of research on you tube. Your going to love it, also make sure you have some kind of heat diffuser.
