I'm going to look at this slicer Friday. Is anyone familiar with this type hobart slicer?

The owner didn't know the model number or blade size. He thought the blade was probably about 12". He said there was not a sharpener of any kind.

Looks like a hobart model  410 mini slicer....................

You will need a sharpener for it.. Google hobart model 410 and you will get sites to buy parts.. $100 bucks sounds like a good deal if it can clean up.. it may look ok from the top but when I was searching for a slicer i found some that were in really bad shape underneath

Thanks, I'll look it over good top to bottom. I think it is a pretty old so it will probably be all worn out.

A good thing about hobart is you can still buy parts for the old models.. good luck

I would tell him that it will need a knife sharpener or the unit will be useless when the blade is dull or becomes dull and offer him 50 bucks to lower your total cost........ It is imprtant the blade is razor sharp to be able to do what it is meant to do. That would be the most I would spend for a unit like that.....  patience is needed when buying a slicer.. You can get a nice one for a decent price. I picked up mine for 450 bucks..... a little higher than I wanted to pay but I am very happy what I got..    http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/105689/my-new-slicer-updated-pics
