I am just learning the ropes here.

I live in middle Georgia...65 yr old...4 to 5 years of outdoor cookin' experience with infrared gas, Master Lodge charcoal, Cajun Injector barrel smoker, and Masterbuilt Electric Smoker, also have a portable charcoal grill for small stuff.

This forum intrigues me because I want to learn a lot more about smokin' with WOOD.  I am a "fire pokin' " ADHD kind of guy.  The charcoal grills let me poke but don't let me smoke very efficiently.  If I can build a fire and smoke somethin', that will be cool...don't get much pokin' done with the MES.

I have been cookin' with the LTBBQ gang for a while...nice, helpful folks.  Wanna hang out here, too, to see what I can learn about wood smokin'.

Thanks, y'all...

I "drank the kool-aid"...bought the recipes, etc to help the cause.

I am tryin' to get into the wood-fired bbq scene with a medium size smoker.  Thinkin' about the one Aaron Franklin uses - Old Country smoker.  Amazed at how he can cook with that thing,  Of course, he's a pro. But he got his start somewhere...I might as well get started, too.

Since you are in Georgia might want to check out a Lang I have one because I am a pokin kind of guy. We call em stick burners and they definitely produce the best Q. That said they take a lot more work and attention so are definitely not for everyone. I must say after buying my Lang my Q went from good to excellent and the family now requests it multiple times per week. They have smaller patio models as well and I would highly recommend them. There is also a Lang section on SMF that you can check out. To date I have not heard anything bad about Lang.

Good luck any way you go and Happy Smokin!
