Okay Guys!  I know others have asked this before.  Is this a better stuffer than the Grizzly.  I think someone earlier this month was asking about this one...or one similar.  I think yall said the "fluff:....the other additions to the stuffer where not a great idea.  Just double checking before I plunk down some cash.

Kat

Kat, the LEM stuffer has steel gears and the Grizzly has nylon gears.  Other than that, they are great stuffers.  My Kitchener is the same size and it has nylon gears.  You just need to be careful that you don't keep turning the handle when you reach the bottom and strip the gears.

Morn'n Kat.....I bought the "fluff" because I wanted the book......and the premixed seasonings. I was very new to sausage making and wanted to start with premix recipes to keep me out of trouble. IMHO......if you want the book then the "fluff" is worth it. If not, just get the stuffer.

Brad

I keep reading the Brand LEM all over the place on this part of the forums.  I know those are great products.  AND....I wasn't sure if this one had the nylon parts.  Saw that others had issues with them breaking.  Thanks for the input!  I can always count on you guys!

Brad...I totally agree about the "fluff" as I called it.  I am so new to sausage making and don't wanna screw up either.  Wanted some casings too. So I am seriously thinking about it.

Thanks for the help!

Kat

Way back in the day i used a heavy cast enterprise stuffer, took 2 men and 4 boys to lift it. Got a cheapo with plastic gears and went thru 3 sets. Crappers should have kept my enterprise then just bought the lem.

Sold the enterprise along with my 12" globe slicer that was porcelain coated cast iron, heavy sumbeach

The grass is always greener! I have the heavy enterprise and when cleaning it I think how nice it would be to have a light stuffer. I have put a lot of pressure on it and not had any problems.

I know that I totally respect the Umph that it took with my Universal Grinder.

You can get the steel replacement gears for the Grizzly or Northern from LEM for $29.

If I ever break the nylon ones on my $55 Kitchener, I plan on getting the steel replacement and being well ahead of the game in overall costs.  So far, no problems though.

Kat, I started that thread you mentioned at the top of this one,! Wish there was more sticky control here for posts! Everything you asked was answered in the one I posted! Can't wait to see your new stuffer in action! I am awaiting the delivery of mine too! Should be here right about the time I leave for the weekend. So I expect to see two  to four batches of sausage a day! Don't want Nepa getting a leg up!

If the plastic gears break, LEM's gears will fit it....

"Silver" Metal gears (set of two gears) for the 5lb vertical stuffer, model #606. These gears are located at the top of the stuffer frame. I am excited....and can't wait!  I want to try it all....but baby steps is what I need to do.

Can't wait for the parts to come in for the new smoker too.  Should be here in a few days.  I am having withdrawals.

Some observations.

Note that most all the complaints are about "plastic gears" ... not the nylon gears from Waltons - SM.

Hi Gear Jammers!

My friend Mac at the Sausagemaker[emoji]8482[/emoji] in Buffalo, has just shed new light on an old subject – that of metal gears on 5 lb. vertical stuffers. Allow me to quote some information he passed along to me today.

"Metal gears on the 5 lb. vertical stuffer is a sensitive subject here because there really are misperceptions out there. We have tested several samples of metal gears for 5 lb stuffers and wanted to take our stuffers along that route, but after testing them we decided they are a BAD idea for our customers. Here are the reasons why:
(1.) They WILL flake metal shavings. No getting around this one - tiny metal filings will be coming off them.
(2.) There is literally no 'give' to them, when you have increased back-pressure usually when stuffing small diameter sausage sticks or small breakfast links those gears got locked up for us constantly.
(3.) They are a gimmick more than anything practical. Metal gears are actually CHEAPER than our Lubricomp Resin Gears. We get calls all the time from customers that have the metal gears. We don't want to replace something good with a gimmick. Lubricomp is no 'chinsy' plastic.
(4.) Our gears are made using our own mold by skilled plastics-tooling professionals here. The 'other guys' don't want to fork over the dough for a quality plastic mold so they buy inferior metal gears from another supplier not in this country."

That should clear up a lot of questions for a lot of people I believe. My thanks to Mac for his straightforward reply. Hey folks, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… “to prevent damage to the gears, simply stop cranking the handle when the piston reaches the bottom of the cylinder”.
