Sorry everyone im sure this has been asked many times before but as long as nobody minds here it goes. I have the mes 30" electric smoker from qvc and i do love it, it does a wonderful job but what i dont like is having to cut my ribs in half for them to fit also id like to see the smokering on a brisket and shoulder. So with that said what i see of the gas smokers are they seem to do a pretty good job of this and the size of the smoke hollow 44" smoker really interests me. I guess with that said id like to know what are everyones preferences with the goods and bads of these smokers and what upgrades should be done to make it perform correctly. I also want to thank everyone here for the great info i have gotten from this site its the best.

I'll have to chek that out i've read alot of good review on them have you done any mods to the smoke vault

Nope....no mods needed.  Some smoke does escape around the door....but doesn't bother me at all.

Love the thing.  Easy to use...easy to clean....easy to store in the garage!

That landman is a very nice smoke its a little more costly than the smoke vault and the smoke hollow though. How is it with the use of fuel?

I have done about 8 smokes on one tank and still had leftover fuel.  Amazon has a good deal right now on the 24"...it's less than $250.....and gets free shipping!

That price on amazon sure makes it very tempting but i think i would like to see a few other opinions first. What about full racks of ribs and a whole shoulder or brisket do they fit fine in the smoke vault?

Chops, there is a good chance the landman is more than what you're looking for, I was just trying to give you the basic rundown. It's good on propane, not too much of a hog.

Its definatly not out i've seen alot of very good reviews on it. The only thing is i've only had the mes for about a month and ot does ok but no smoke ring and not enough room so at this moment its a little out of my budget but i may wait and see if it comes into budget. So yes i want to hear about all smokers pros and cons about them also will help from the people that are using them on a regular basis so i want to thank everybody that has an input on this.

Yes i am a sams club member and thats not as bad as the 499.00 price i saw on it earlier i guess i kinda jumped the gun on that and should have looked around first thanks for the link that is definatly more in my price range.

I have done St Louis style ribs on it...and 4 briskets...and 2 large turkeys....and loads of butts.  The rack size is 21 x 14 if that helps.

humdinger, i have a couple questions. Have you done any mods or does the landman work good out of the box and what about full slabs of ribs and shoulders or a brisket do they fit without cutting them?

Wandered over to Gander Mountain, since it looked like numerous models were on sale.

Had a bit of a goldylocks experience there.  Lots of stuff that was "too small".  A couple items that were "too big".  And, right there amongst all the smoke-hollow stuff, what did I see?  The 24" Smoke Vault.  Good height, but not too tall.  Narrow from front to back, but plenty of room for meat.  Good enough width I can fit some baby backs in there from side to side.  Honestly, wouldn't want anything bigger or smaller.... it was "just right".  Would have liked more metal and double-wall construction, but have given up hope for a truly quality-built smoker in our price point.  Anyhow, just waiting for the Smoke Vault to be delivered.  Already had a couple of Boston Butts ready to cook.  Hopefully the smoker comes in before I have to {gasp} cook them in the oven.

I also recommend the Smoke Vault 24.  I've had mine for about 3 years and it does everything I want it to.  I've had the thing loaded with meat and believe me it will hold a lot.  I never have to worry about temp problems, once I find my target temp it just hums right along creating smokey goodness.

I have found the SV 24" is "just right" in every way for me too!  Love mine.
