Lem 5# stuffer

Okay after using the not so finely tuned Beast of a stuffer that I have, I decided that having a finely tuned not so much of a beast might be a good idea! Thing biggest issue I had was the squeeze out. While stuffing the first summer sausage there was at least a pound that squeezed out on top of the plunger. So that got me looking at the 5# LEM. On Amazon they have two different deals right now one is the 5# nothing else $142.99 . The other is the 5# stuffer and all this stuff :

Without looking up all the different extras, my quick guess it the you will save about $15........"IF" you have use for all the extras. If not, sounds like you would be spending $32 extra.

Buy this one for $85 and call it good. All of these things are almost identical. Does an excellent job, almost identical other that the gears and will work fine. Order an extra O-ring at the same time in the parts section.

You can order gear sets from Walton's for $10 if/when you break one.

I'd get just the LEM stuffer. I'm happy with mine. You can order the rest of stuff to suit your needs specifically not just the shit they want to unload on you.

I guess another question the Grizzly has 5/8" 7/8" and 1" tubes. the LEM has 1/2" 3/4" and 1" which is more standard for casings?

They all seem to work for me. I use the 5/8 for hog casings and the 7/8 for the remainder.

I made this attachment for a couple $$. 12" piece of 1/2 OD copper from Home Depot. Flare one end and it will slide inside the 5/8" tube ... now you can do snack sticks and small sheep casings.

Your mileage may vary ....

That is a good price on the kit, That is what I got and just love it and I really liked the packets that came with it, not looked at book that much, IMHO go with the lem you wont regret it.

I have the LEM and absolutely love it and like the metal gears. I do 99% of my stuffing by myself and it's easy to use with only about enough meat left in it and the tube to make a small patty. I ordered an extra O ring when I got the stuffer.

DS....I'd go with the Lem without the 'deal' I got mine from Amazon as well after seriously considering the Griz....deciding factor was the metal gears and only wanting to do this once. You will receive a mail-in card from Lem anyway in which, upon return, they will ship you the Backwoods Seasoning box of Breakfast, Hot Breakfast, Sweet Italian and Hot Italian. I got mine within a week seems like, very fast delivery on that. And that 7/8" tube is only 1/8" away from the included 1 inch stuffer

I ordered the package deal from Amazon and have never regretted it. It was a nice way to get started as It comes with everything but the meat. The mixes really do taste good. My LEM came with plastic stuffing tubes and I ordered a 3/8" SS tube to do snack sticks and breakfast links. The small sheep casings barely fit on the 3/8" but the final outcome was well worth it. After making 6 lbs of Honey Ham Sticks this weekend, I am glad I had the metal gears ans it took quite a bit of pressure to fill the casings.

Thanks for the report on that Willie. I looked really hard last night and read a bunch of reviews. All said to get extra gears with the Grizzly.

So I was back to the LEM which is where I started. I may have to wait a few weeks before ordering, vacation kinda sucked the smoke fund down to bare minimum!!!

If your gonna get the LEM they offer one with stainless tubes only available direct from LEM for 149.99 and if you call by phone and ask them they will wave the shipping cost for above $150 so just order an extra gasket to have on hand and youll be all set. I just ordered this last week and its great, just tell them youd rather order from them if they can bring the price closer to amazon's and they will wave shipping cost making it like $7 more but you get the stainless tubes, well worth it.

I'm another (very) happy LEM user. Got mine as a Christmas gift and I started using it two days later. Mine has the plastic tubes, but I don't care. They work great, the stuffer works at my speed and it's easy to set up, use and clean afterward. Also discovered I prefer the natural, hog casings vs the "edible" collagen ones. They just seem easier to work with. I can make, stuff, tie off and smoke 10 lbs worth in one afternoon. All kinds of fun! You're going to love it.

Guys...I almost pulled the the trigger on the 5# LEM at Sportsman's Warehouse this morning...the only thing holding me back was the lack of the 3/8" tube. I will mostly be using the stuffer for beef sticks and cannot make them without that size?!

They don't stock them at SW. It's pretty cool that rexlan made his own..I lack the flaring tool, but I can borrow and or purchase one?

Finally, my question...will my KitchenAid horns work with the LEM? Grizzly? Westin?

I have a 7 lb. Cabela's horizontal stuffer that I have used for about 2 years. The big complaint when they sold them was that the small tube was not small enough for snack sticks or pepperoni. So I got a great price and I just use my KA plastic tube for sheep casings. It works great. I think I had to file the plastic just a bit but it was a lot cheaper and more handy that buying other tubes. I am guessing the that throat on the Cabela's horizontal stuffer would be similar to the LEM. I will measure it when I get home and PM you tomorrow.

I ended up pulling the trigger @ Dick's Sporting Goods on a Weston Jerky & Snack Stick Gun. LINK Believe it or not, this thing rocks...come with 2 tubes, 4 different jerky horns, cleaning brushes, funnel and stamper...my only complaint is putting on my 21mm casings was a PITA, but I was able to get that done...I'm gonna order an even smaller horn directly from Weston!

The odds are real good I'll go pick up the LEM this next week too?!
