I have a proposal for this coming BBQ season. What if we had a fun, informal series of competitions, city by city, arranged by and for the members here. It could be a fun way to meet another member or 2, and we could stipulate that there must be video and/or pictures of the event. We could come up with a set of guidelines for the competition and maybe even for the format of the Q-view. I'm not talking KCBS level of competition here, I'm talking just getting together with a couple members, having a few laughs, smoking some grub and having a panel of wives or friends or what have you be the "judges", documenting it all and posting it here foal to see.

As for arranging the comps, it could be as simple as "Hey Y'all, I'm in Pig's knuckle Arkansas, let's get a few locals together Saturday after next and have a little friendly competition!!"

Anyway, lemme know what you think.

Sounds like fun. I've read up about competitions on the KCBS website and there's not much room or love for propane smokers such as myself. I like this idea better and besides, "less formal" always means "more fun" to me... keep me posted.

Sounds like fun...but my smoker isn't that portable. Would it be smoke it and bring it? Just wondering!

KatherynN  you could always bring it and smoke it. The gatherings I have been to have plenty of smoker space.

So after I win with my famous smoked pork ribs and pork butts, who'll pay me my winnings?

I'm sure you could find room in someone's smoker, or you might just have to host one at your place!
What if I'm camera shy???

You'll have to wear a disguise.

Bragging rights are free. Beyond that, I think you'll have to make your own trophy :)

Allright, Here's the first challenge.  Washington, DC area members.  Saturday, March 16th. Swainslock (free) campground on the C&O canal. Turn in is at 4 pm. We're cooking chicken and ribs. You gotta bring your own.  The rules are that everything must be cooked, marinated and injected on site, starting at 9 am. Sauces must also be made on site. One chicken box and one rib box must be submitted.  Judges will be chosen the day of, from the husbands and wives of the competitors. This is a fun competition but the results will be displayed here for all to see. Let's see if we can get this thing going huh? Who wants to play?
