On another site i saw a picture of a WSM with three racks on it.  I could do the MOD using screws, bolts and washers.  I am not really too handy and was wondering if there is any certain kind i should buy at home depot.  Obviously zinc plated is out but would any of you guys know which to get?

thanks

Do you own a drill??

Got bits that will go thru the ceramic??

Got a punch to set the holes??

Maybe you could get one of yer mechanically inclined friends to do this for ya...

Step drills are often used to bore clean holes in WSM ceramic coatings.  Just make sure to put a strip of masking tape down first to help reduce chipping.  There is a tutorial on how to mount a thermometer on the TVWBB site which would also apply to drilling holes like you want.  I think the smallest step drill size is 3/16 and it should step up in 1/16 increments from there.  Part on step drills starts about 1/4 the way down on the link below.

Thanks for all the responses. I have a good amount of tools including drill bits but I'm not sure of what type of screws/bolts to use that are safe with high heat and cooking. When it comes to stuff like that I'm clueless.

fpnmf said it well when he advised using stainless steel hardware. It will serve your purpose on the smoker much better than the nickel plated hardware it comes with.

that is exactly what i saw lol.  Can i buy them at hardware store?
When I am looking for hardware I first go to ACE...not a big store but lots of hardware.  We now have a Tractor Supply Store and a Lowes.

Stainless is the way to go for outside stuff. I used regular carbon steel stuff on the inside of mine and it has a nice coating on it now.

Good luck.
