Hey all,

I have a Masterbuilt 30 electric and i was planning on making a boston butt and a whole chicken on it at the same time.  Now I know that you are not supposed to put poultry over any meat due to the drippings causing a cross contamination problem but i also dont want the pork dripping onto the chicken because i have a pork allergy in my family.  I was wondering if it would be smart to start the butt first and let it get a nice bark then wrap in foil and at this time put the chicken on to smoke? also is apple wood good with chicken or should i switch to hickory?

Thanks

How big is the butt? If it is very big it will probably take a lot longer than the chicken anyway and you'll probably be at the foiling point anyway when you are ready to start the chicken.

Apple is good with chicken.

You could also stick the butt into a foil pan when you put the chicken in
