Labor Day Brisket and Spares using the AMNPS w/Qview

We are going to have a little BBQ with some friends tomorrow so I decided to make a brisket. I also got a AMNPS a few weeks ago and have only used it for cold smoking. I figured id give it a whirl for hot smoking.

Started with a 12.86lb brisket.

All tucked in and ready for a nice warm night

Here is a close up of where I put the AMNPS. I have Oak and Hickory in there. So far its burning nicely. I made a heat shield out of heavy duty foil. I also put the pellets in the microwave for 90 seconds before putting in the AMNPS. Dont know if I needed to do that or not but I have always done it with the dust to ensure its dry so I just did it with the pellets too.

Off to a good start. I still need to master the AMNPS on hot smokes. I think I needed to make a heat shield as well cuz mine was dying out on the hot smokes.

I placed it where I did because its near a intake vent so this should help.

Got it from Wally world. I was impressed with it. I held it up and it could bend into the shape of a U. The others there had so much fat that they didn't bend at all.

Here it is at 7 this morning. About 10 hours into it.

It all looks great and I bet very taste.. I have only used my AMNPS for hot smokes and it has preformed perfect in every way. It was a real rainy windy weekend here and I smoked a 15lb brisket with the pellets and no problems with the burn at all. I have never used a heat sheld. I did do a simple mod to my smoker with a small air pump into the bottom of the smoker to improve my air flow...

Everything looks delicious Brian!
