Hey all, I'm brand new to the smoking game and looking to buy my dad a propane one for Christmas. I've searched all the brands from master built to Cajun injection and am having a hard time picking one. My budget is $200 and only need one big enough for me and him to smoke something occasionally. I haven't been able to figure out which one to pick considering the build quality and thermometer problems that come with all the different brands of smokers. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it!! Thanks!!

I bought a Master Forge from Lowes. Lowes item #: 411913  |  Model #: MFX784BDP

Have been very happy with it overall. Was a little hesitant at first as I wondered if it would be a severe gas sucker but it does real well.

Only issues I've had is with trying to get it to run below 190* during hot summer months.  Also at the base of the chamber to seperate the smoke/water pan chamber from the cook chamber there is a 1 inch or so flange along the back and side walls but not on the front wall for some reason.  This causes a bit of hotter temps on the front side of the smoker which makes things on the front of the rack cook quicker. Overall, for the money I'm real happy with it. The built in thermometer is surprisingly accurate and dependable so far.

Oh yeah, another good thing about the Lowes smokers. They assembled it no charge

Not that I couldn't of course haha, but I was ready to smoke that night. They did it for me while I was working and had it ready for pick up when I got off.
