kingsford hickory charcoal

Does kingsford hickory burn hotter than regular kingsford? Just tried miniom method in new braunfels offset with modifications that include 12" baffle and extended smokestack down to grate level. Used less than 1/2 bag of kingsford hickory and filled small coffee can with 1/2 full small chimney starter of cowboy lump. Temp started rising quick so I closed damper 25 mins. in(left stack wide open whole time). Temp topped out at 320 after 1 hour. 1 hour later it was 270. 1 hour later 225.  I'm thinking I need to stay away from lump and kingsford hickory. Any advice is appreciated.

It burns about the same as blue bag kingsford, not worth the extra money to me.
