Have any forum members thought about starting a business with their smoked BBQ?

Check this link below, of the posts I've read about starting a bbq business, this one seems to be the grand-daddy of them all.  This covers a lot of the trials and tribulations of owning a business from the very beginning...pull up a chair and get comfy, it's a long read...

Thanks for the read... It brought back many memories of my own venture that ended in failure.

There are many hurdles to jump getting your own business started.

JoeD hasn't posted in about a year.

Has anybody heard from him???

I have watched multiple BBQ places fail in my town.  The last one failed because they wanted to stick to their Carolina roots.  They only carried thin, vinegar "Carolina style" sauces.  Their meat was good, but the locals tended to prefer sweet, thick, spicy and tangy sauces.  It was a deal breaker for them; they were out of business in 8 months.  Always consider your local market.  Probably the most chilling thing is cruising craigs list, and seeing how many restaurant and caterer type BBQ units are being sold at "fire sale" prices.  I saw a 10k Traeger trailer going for 3k on craigslist, along with a host of commercial BBQ equipment at bargain basement prices.  Currently, the only BBQ place in town is a submarine sandwich shop which has a couple side smoker units (essentially home-grade) at the side of the store.

I don't know much about running a restaurant business but on my last (and first) trip to Texas I drove around looking for a good BBQ joint and found three closed businesses . One of them out of the game for over a year. The other two had recent reviews on Internet.
