It's true . Last night I got in the same room as the thread mill . It's still plugged in and ready . Before the fire and my health issues I walked at least 4 miles a day . Since then I have not walked at all . I need some pushing to get back at it ... anybody got any push ideals ? Quitting Marlboros was easy compared to getting back on that thread mill .

Stick a tv in front of it and put on a favorite show and make sure to go until the show ends, the bit of distraction should make it seem like the time just flies by.

Skip the TV, a Plate with a PP sannie in front of you...just out of reach should do the job. Getting started is the hardest part, if you like music and gadjets, if you don't have one already get an ipod and load your favorite music or a podcast of a topic you enjoy, plug the earphones in and start walking

Getting started IS the hardest part.

Start slow, just 10 minutes. This is a conscious choice that anyone can do.

Once you get the routine back, just start advancing the time by 5 minute increments.

Good Luck

The TV does help in my case. The only trouble I have is that I either have just enough energy to exercise or to go to work. My wife and my creditors would rather see me work.

Im trying to get back into exercising too and when i listen to music i get going way better than talk radio or tv, but maybe that's just me?

Get outside in the fresh air in the morning for your walk, take a different route every day, make the walk a brisk one-about 30 to 40 min. works great for me.

A winter walk in Maine Brrr. One of the only things I miss about living in the village is the sidewalks, I don't get much out of a dogroll as we call it (dog on leash and me in my powerchair) but feels good to be outside. Right now the snow is still with us, but soon. Since it's not safe to just go from the house. I take the dog into the village near us or we go all over when camping. One of the things I love about camping is the good paved drives everywhere for the wheelchair. We normally go about 2 miles in the morning and 2 more after dinner when camping. I love to look at everyones set-up and gear, and the fact that almost everyone says "hello" sure makes you feel good.

I bought a new I-Pod , trying to load it tonight . I am building a platform for my lap top to be secure in ft of the thread mill .... I have no cable in this room for a TV and the left over tv I own won't work without a box .

If you really want a workout while walking outside, take up Nordic Walking. It's a great way to give your upper body a workout without really having to think about it. Click the link below for more info.

Just got back from the Doc. He tells me I need to shed some weight and suggested walking. Seems a BMI of 30 is too much

. I'm going to give some of these ideas a try.

I just got fed up with being fat.. We had a treadmill and 2 months ago, I turned the TV on and started walking. 5 minute slow warm up, 7 minute fast pace, 3 minute slowdown, 7 minute fast, and 5 minute cooldown. Worked great until the treadmill fried last week! Stopped dead in it's tracks so to speak. I about fell on my face. Got myself an Elliptical trainer off Craigslist the next day. I have to say even as a begginner, I love the elliptical over the treadmill. Much better overall work out. I get twice the calorie burn in the same amount of time. No joint pain afterwords either. Good luck on your journey's. I typically have to do an extra 5 minutes every time I even visit this site

I started last and made it 800m ( two laps ) at 3.5 mph . My shoulder started hurting from earlier injury back in Jan from our house fire . I love walking and refuse to get any damn fatter . I will get this count up to a mile and then way beyond as healing permits . But hey two laps is a good start .

Been thinkin about figuring out how to get rid of the winter gut before Turkey season myself.

I think I will go get a beer and think about it some more.

Then I think I will drive down to my shop (6miles) have another beer and talk to my buddy about it.

Bout that time it will be time to go to the Moose Lodge and get a beer and ask a few of those folks.

I use bud light as my motivator!

I was a Martial Arts School Owner and taught many just fitness classes also, when you walk think time not distance. Start out for 20 mins and then increase the speed you walk at that time line. When you can walk and talk with your heart rate reaching 75% of max (220 minus your age is max) then increase the time to 30 minutes. Make sure you stretch you shins and ankles. Point your toes up the down to stretch shins and Do circles with feet for ankles. I would walk 3 times a week with some other exercise between. Bike riding is a good one, swimming etc.

Good luck and have fun, exercise really is fun

I hate to suggest spending money, but the Nintendo wii Fit would be the best you could ever spend. I've been on it since the end of 2008 and was at 250# with blood pressure at 183/97 and a BMI of 33. That was enough. I walked about a mile every day at that time and still do so that is not a factor. The program weighs you and measures your BMI and tracks it daily. That is a big help in reaching your goals. I started doing the stuff it suggested until I had regained my balance (that is major), and then switched to aerobics only. There is a free step option in which you just step up onto and off the pad as it counts your steps. I started with 10 minutes, went to 20, 40, and then a full hour every day. It suggests 3600 steps in an hour and I soon worked up to around 5500. Oh, and you can watch TV while doing it if you want to.

You also need to learn portion control on beef, pork, and sausage. Eat more salmon, turkey, chicken, and green veggies. Most other fish is good to. I went from burgers and fries for lunch to carrots and celery. I make my own healthy pizza instead of ordering Pizza Hut. Believe it or not you soon get used to it and even look forward to it.

I don't mean to sound preachy and self righteous, but facts are facts. Today I weighed in at 193 (I'm 6'2"). BP was 130/70 and my BMI is 25. The Nintendo program would like to see the BMI at 22, but judging from the BP I'm happy at this level. My Doc is too. Diet and exercise are the key to a longer life so we can enjoy reasonable servings of Que for a long time.

Get a dog, they love to walk/run, they will take you for a spin and keep you motivated. Fly fishing and archery also works for me.
