After seeing all of the post about tri-tip I have decided to grill one. The pressure is on because it has been a tradition for many years that I grill a 12+ ounce filet for me and 8 ounce filet for my wife with huge twice baked potatoes, stuffed with shrimp, on Christmas day. These tri-tips are readily available at my local butcher shop. I am going to grill them the same way I grill my super thick filet. I season with Montreal steak and let it sit unwrapped in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours. I put this one in the fridge at 8:00 am central time this morning and I plan on grilling tomorrow about 1:00 pm central time. Just before I drop it on the Weber Kettle, I will brush with olive oil on all sides. And that's it! I'll post the final pic sometime Christmas afternoon. Merry Christmas everyone!
Is this a decent price? I have no idea.
Should trim some fat? Would probably be good on there if grilling?
Pretty good marbling.
Good stuff right there!!
Seasoned up and ready for a long cold nap.
Well the verdict is in. As stated before I went straight to the grill with it. No pre-smoking stuff. Didn't see the need. The wife and I agree this meat is just as good as the filets we grill. We don't eat steaks with blood dripping out of all sides. Medium well for us and it is always juicy, tender and flavorful. I didn't take a bunch of sliced pics. One pic tells the story. We will be grilling Tri-Tips on a regular basis around our house from now on. Merry Christmas all!
