I found one of these for sale, 1 year old for $350 asking...if you did not have a pellet grill and were considering it would you jump on it or spend some more on something else? I have a standard natural gas grill and recently picked up a masterbuilt propane smoker that I am having fun with.

I am putting up a house in PA and thought this might be great up there. My only concern is if the family wants to do a quick steak and burgers is "is this the right grill"?

I would not touch it for that price. Brand new they are going for $550, and I think that's too much.

If it's very clean, I would consider it, but agree it feels high. Show up with cash and maybe theyll come down. For a hundred or two more you could get a pit boss brand new, with a nice warranty.

I have a pro 22 and really like it. A pit boss does the same thing. I'm not gonna tell you what brand to buy. They really all do the same thing. Sky is literally the limit on these things. Practice makes perfect.

The pellet process is a little different and takes time adjusting to it. Since getting mine, I've only used the Weber lp grill twice. Cooking with wood is just better. Maybe it's a caveman thing.

Just purchased a new traeger 22 and I seem to be burning through my pellets pretty quickly is that normal? Also any ideas on over night smokes? Will pellet hopper make it through the night or will I have to refill container?
Thanks

If you're grilling, 300+ degrees, yeah, you'll use some pellets. Lower smoke temps, 200-225, you'll get way better mileage.
I personally have not gone overnight yet. I would probably not let it go more than 5-6 hours without checking on it. You may have plenty of pellets, but I think you'd want to stir the hopper up some to avoid "tunneling" of the pellets.

  • The hotter the temperature the more pellets will be burnt. The lower the temperature the less you use. I just made bacon last weekend, it sat at 107° Celsius and there was plenty left. I made a brisket for nine hours at 107° Celsius and there was still plenty. Good luck.

I wouldnt by a Trager new, used, or on sale. read too many poor reviews and bad experiences. I would shop for what you want and but that for its quality and features.

A pellet grill is not great for a "quick burger and steak". Keep you gasser for that.

Give Rec Teq a look. solid units to say the least. not the most expensive. So much good to day about them.

Thanks for the information, I do appreciate it. I bought mine about four months ago. Yes it is different to my cabinet smoker but a little more advanced. I would look at a wood smoker but I'm worried I won't be able to regulate the heat. I'll take any tips, thank you
