I have had this smoker for more than a year now and would like to make some mods to it to improve my smoking capabilities. It seems like the ones for the ECB really don't fit but I could be wrong. Any suggestions to make some changes?

Thanks for the link, I have forwarded to a friend to see if he can assist me with the modifications.

I have just ordered a Brinkmann gourmet smoker and have read this info on the mods, which i intend to do. The thing is I live in the UK so we are not as advanced as you Americans when it comes to outdoor cooking. I would like to fit a gas burner to my Brinkmann while doing these mods as I dont fancy sitting outside tending it in the rain as our summers mostly are. Has anyone tried this yet

Regarding the propane mod, I'm not so sure that just using the smoker as is, or for that matter with some enhancement would be particularly 'high maintenance', beyond adding some more charcoal every couple/few hours... which seems reasonable to me.  Not to bash propane, it's just that good charcoal on a vertical smoker is closer to the 'dog's bollocks'..
