Looking to get one or the other, as I have had a couple instances where my wood would ignite using the stock system (luckily i have a warning on my temp alarm that alerts me), and am going to look at this as a "fix" so the propane is simply there to hold temp and give me the option of running a near-cold smoke.

Anyways, which one is better, easier? I have a good butcher/smoker supply store local here that carries hardwood sawdust, I'm assuming that would work in the non-pellet version....

Or is the pellet just so convenient and easy that I should go that route?

Thanks for your help,

Steve

Steve, in my MB unit I added a small steel tray to set my wood chunks in to prevent them from combusting.  Works like a charm!  From what I have heard from some other MB owners, a small, stainless steel dog bowl (from Wally World) works quite well also.

yeah, i've added layers of foil and pounded closed the openings of the chip bowl and that has helped a lot, i know of people modding cast iron skillets and using those with great luck....

i decided to get a pellet AMNPS.... so I can basically cold smoke.

seems like folks have a hard time keeping them lit while the burner is on in an XL.... so I may put in its own air baffle on the floor so I can open it when I am burning the pellets as well as the burner.
