Hey all, new to the forum and meat smoking in general. I’m looking for advise. I have an old charcoal grill (see pics) not really sure what time of grill this is called but looks like a general smoker but without the fire box. I was wondering if I could use this to successfully smoke a brisket. If anyone could enlighten me on the type of grill this is and how I could set it up to be a smoker I would be very appreciative! Full blown beginner here so any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks in advanced!

Practice with a line of about 10#'s of Kingsford Blue with 3-4 chunks of flavor wood chunks buried in the briquettes... Light 5-6 new briquettes and place them at one end as starter fuel for the remaining line.... Watch the temp rise in the grill... As it gets up to about 180-200F, close down the air inlet about 50%.... watch the temp... regulate the air inlet, about 10 min. intervals, trying to keep ahead of the smoker temp as to not overshoot your desired cooking temp of ~250F...
That grill may have too many air leaks making temp control a problem...
That test will give you an idea of what to do on the next cook.....
Each grill is different and the learning curve can be frustrating... You may have to make SEVERAL adjustment to your fire control.... Amount of initial charcoal, air adjustments, sealing up air leaks... AIR LEAKS ARE YOUR ENEMY.......Once you get it, you are golden...

Yes you can smoke any thing on it that will fit, build the fire on the other end away from the smoke stack, like davomak said test drive it to see how it goes temp wise , have fun and remember when ever you adjust the air it takes a little while before they change, a remote temp probe will make your adjustments ect a lot easier imo.
