This is happening. Kinda interested to try it. Maybe soon we'll all have printers in the kitchen next to all of those other appliances...

Interestingly, the DOD has funded research into this. Logistically, is it better to haul MREs or powders and printers?

I think I would rather have mine cultivated with a little grass and corn. Nothing against "progress" but I am an Angus & Piedmontese type of guy.

I have the same knee-jerk reaction. Its bizarre, and fake.
But on a fakeness meter, how different really is this than ego waffles, chiken mcuggets, or cheetos? Most of the food that most of us eat is manufactured in highly industrialized facilities (essentially laboratories) with lots of synthesized chemicals. Certainly not farm-to-fridge.

Besides, fake 3d printed meat sounds a lot better than all-natural maggots.

HEY! Don't trash talk my Cheetos! 😎

To respond to the OP, I would rather eat a printed steak than an MRE any day. I'm an Army Combat Vet and eaten more MREs than I care think about. 2,000 calories in a bag. So much preservatives they can last 3 years in any temp and climate and still be safe to eat. I am convinced that my favorite MRE "Pork Rib" has less real meat than a McDonald's McRib!!

Bring on the printer!!!

I liked the beef teriyaki. #17 if I remember right. Add enough Tabasco and it was "5 stars" lol. I ate enough of the jalapeno cheese spread I didn't poop for 3 years

I dont remember the numbers but I remember pork rib was in case menu B. Jalapeno cheese spread on the wheat snack bread was the deal! You almost had to use the whole bottle of Tabasco to stay regular, but when you're in the field, not having to dig a cat hole or go behind my truck was a plus!

Cheese omelet..... Worst. One. Ever.

I never had omelet. We hated "beef patty" and " beef franks". If we are being honest I wish I could get the jalapeno cheese spread commercially lol. I have a bunch of the heaters still and showed my kids how to make bombs out of them

You are better off for not having it. It was d-diddly-sugsting!

I would buy jalapeno cheese spread! Ive bought Rip-Its at the dollar store and it brought me back. The taste of Iraq in a can!

I don’t eat that crap to begin with.
For me, I will take or carve for myself off of the carcass. Period the end.

LOL. it won't be near as good as you remember it being,
You're better off leaving it a good memory.
If you're not living on MREs it just isn't the same.
I already know. At the time that was the most delicious stuff on the planet. No telling what's in it. I guarantee no cheese lol
