    New Brinkmann Trailmaster Vertical Smoker

    I found that starting it with charcoal then going to straight wood, I can get the temp up. with the wood I had to move my basket back down. smoked a shoulder this weekend and it turned out great. Thanks to all for the help.

    the holes in my basket is 3/4". The charcoal was new.

    I did have it open all the way.  Could it be that my charcoal basket doesn't have enough clearance, right now my charcoal basket is setting on top of my charcoal grate that came with the smoker.
