To continue beating the poor horse.......

Looking for guidance.... I'm 74 and have cooked on everything under the sun over the years. Very old school, charcoal and wood, meat in the same chamber with and exposed to the fire guy. However, I've experimented a good bit as well, with upright cabinets both electric and gas, offsets, custom...

My smoking life.....another dumb idea...suggestions and ridicule welcome

Folks, I've tried 'em all in 50 years of grilling and smoking. An 800 lb. steel plate behemoth offset with huge vertical cylinder....propane fired Big Block....electric Masterbuilt, and on and on. If I had the money back I spent on all this, I'd buy a new truck. I've had a lot of delicious...

    Major MES fail

I would say that might prevent some major future frustration. You KNOW it will fail in the middle of a smoke when you have a bunch of people waiting on food. And, there is no warning....all control panel lights will still be operating normally, with your only clue being the steady drop in temp...

    Major MES fail

Mine is definitely a 20070311, and the element is replaceable. A pain in the rear, but replaceable. My issue (see above) was the connectors which slide over the element tabs having crumbled, so I really had not planned to replace the element. When Masterbuilt included a new one with the other...

    Paprika free rubs?

Figured that out after the fact. Thanks. So,you think it's better without the last three? I agree on the cayenne. As I said, when I think of great tasting ribs, it doesn't include spicy heat, and I don't think it adds to the flavor. Don't really know about the other two.

Was there an attachment? Not seeing a recipe.

    Paprika free rubs?

Thanks. That looks like a good one to try.

    Paprika free rubs?

Anyone know of any paprika-free rub recipes for pork ribs? I don't dislike paprika really, just want a new direction in flavor. I'm not interested in anything spicy hot, either. The best ribs I've eaten over the years had no such component to their flavor. Any help or ideas appreciated as usual!

    Sudden issues with AMNPS

Todd of A-Maze-N was kind enough to quickly answer my email outlining the above information. He explained that he had this problem due to heat reflecting off foil too close to the AMNPS. Today I did not have my customary grocery store foil tray which I use for a disposable drip pan, and instead...

    Sudden issues with AMNPS

I have been using an AMNPS 5x8 for a couple of years now in a Masterbuilt electric smoker. Through dozens of smokes it has always been perfect, burning as intended and lasting exactly as long as described according to the quantity of pellets I load. I know how to use it, have watched the videos...

    Major MES fail

Thanks to all for your replies. Even with the knowledge that likely all I needed was high temp connectors, I called MB anyway and sent them the pics. They, of course, said my problem was a bad element, and volunteered to replace it, along with connectors and wire.  I am almost positive the...

    Major MES fail

Thanks, Dave. Called MB this morning and sent them the same pics as above. They're sending new element, connectors, and wire. I will be interested to see if the connectors are in line with what jted posted above. If not, I will go find them myself. Don't really think I need any wire, and the...

    Major MES fail

Not sure to what you are referring. The pictures show the connection at the heating element. There is no low voltage wire involved, and there is no circuit board remotely close to this area.

    Major MES fail

Thanks again for the help. Off to find high temp connectors in the morning.

    Major MES fail

Sounds like you have nailed it. That would explain the intact wiring. Any idea why the 2 tabs that the connectors slide on would be rusty? That have anything to do with it? Is my element likely good? The GFI outlet I'm using definitely works....I've tripped it before by using a hair dryer to...

    Major MES fail

Model 20070311, about 2 years old. Has been used 15-20 times. I'm pretty sure its a Gen 1. Started a smoke at about 6:00 PM yesterday, and at 11:00 it was still heating normally at 220 degrees. When I got up this morning at about 6:30 I immediately noticed the temp was down to 82, with both...
