I already called Tech support and it seemed the guy I was talking to wasn't very familiar with the PTG. I am going to keep testing it out and make sure I'm not doing something wrong. I'll try another thermometer too.

Looking for other PTG users. I just got mine today used but like brand new. Turned it on and ran it up to high and couldn't get it over 300 to 350. Not real happy with that I have two other big pellet grills and they are wonderful. Anybody else have any input or advice?
Ah the hinged grill I forgot about that. That would allow you to drop in some new coal or wood or maybe stoke the fire if the grill rack was low enough or if you have a longer stoker rod...
So you have never had to restore more wood or coal into your drum? It sounds to me like you would load your basket up depending on what you're going to cook. Or is the drum just use for a long slow cooks?

I like using mostly wood and I am getting practice and learning my smoker (Brinkmann TLE). My question is I have a nice thin blue smoke going and the temp needs to be maintained so when I add some wood which is usually oak and cured dry it will smoke white for a while until it burns down a bit...
Well folks I smoked nice 5 lb brisket today using mostly wood and finished up with some lump. Thank you all for letting me pick your brains for my dozen questions. Nice sunny day hanging outside all day watching the grand kids and the smoker... Oh did I mention the brisket came out great.
