hi barn stormer,i recently finished one,that started out as a 26" pipe 8ft long,i used 2 ft for my firebox,and it was 3/8 thick wall,turned out great,i don't think u will have any problems,just make sure u size everything to the calculator specs,
ok which one took the first cut with the torch,and which one had the head start?lol would have been funny to have popped a paperbag behind the one cutting the first hole,jk good job so far!

so with the center mounted firebox,will the stack be mounted directly center?im not sure how the heat will be the same temp,from each end?

I hear you on that,it just worries me ,cutting on a tank that could possibly be my last,lol but I guess you can never be too cautious,thanks for the info,i feel another build coming on soon! danny
Looks like your off to a good start,one question,what did you do to the tank to get it safe to cut into?with it being a propane tank,i found one also about the original size of yours im thinking about getting,its free,i just have to move it,thanks danny
I like the idea,just wondering how you plan to control the heat from one side or the other?keep in mind,firebox will have to be sized according to the cc's,will be an interesting build,gl !!
morning Alaska,yep its 3/4 inch sq tube,slides into the c-channel welded to the cc,im gonna post the pics of it when its painted,im thinking about going with a high temp powder coating,will see,i hope dave answered your other question,
I based those numbers on a cylinder-type cook chamber,dave omak helped me with a lot of questions,and a few of the other guys as well,there is a lot of good info to help you along the way,im no expert by any means,but will try to help,thanks danny
Alaska,morning,for the firebox my preference would be at least 1/4" thickness,and a grate for the fire,so you wont burn it out on the bottom,my calculations from the size you gave were

went today and laid down 3 hickory trees,so they could start drying out,dave,from the looks of things today,after some thought i think it will need the vent under the grate,temps held really good,but I am alittle concerned about getting the temps up alittle higher,in case of colder weather bbq...
