I have seen the owner of Yoder smokers answer several Question about the Yoders on the yoder ys pellet grills facebook page. He takes pride in his products. I have had my 640 now for I think 3 years...losing track...but i really love it...cooks great and I have had no problems with it. I use...
I have had my 640 for 2 years now and have had zero problems with it. I did the fan upgrade last year and it helped the pellet consumption, but mine was built before this feature was standard. I think you would be happy with it for a long time.
It is working fine...just have faith and let it do it's thang....I stopped foiling my deflector as well and it does seem to run better. I do not event put a temp gage inside the cooker any more. My 640 has not let me down yet. It is just hard to let go of the reigns.

I have the 640 and have had very good luck with it and no problems. I have no experience with the rec tec. But I did like the Yoder being made here in the USA and it is built heavy. I like the idea of keeping money at home in American hands.
Did you contact yoder? Maybe it is warped or something weird happend in production. My 640 does not leak, but I do not have the thermal blanket. Maybe something on it is keeping lid open. I do not think it should need to add a seal if it was made right. Just my thoughts. weird
