    Faux Burnt-Ends

Been way too long since I've posted on here... So, my parents, from Minnesota, were in town last week and made a dish called "Chizlet"! I may have mispronounced or misspelled, but I'll explain. Chizlet is is sirloin steak cubed, seasoned and grilled. Very tasty. (you can google the recipe...

The SSR is not a step down transformer, it's merely a switch that requires minimal input to turn on/off, which completes a circuit and therefore activates whatever you're running. It's a relay (Solid State Relay=SSR). You want a step down transformer. Look on ebay or at radio shack?

    Blanket Warmer Build-Up Pics 2

BAN, I went ahead and bought my fan and blade from W.W. Grainger. It levels everything out perfectly...heat/smoke! I've smoked about 20 different times in my build and the consistency and quality is nothing short of amazing. The only issue I've had was I burnt out my SSR, which I quickly...

    Smoking Malts/Grains

Steve, The title was a SNAFU...I meant hops, but my simple mind got the better of me...I 100% agree with your opinion of caring for hops and not smoking them! If you read the body I don't mention hops, but grains... Sorry for the confusion! ~Brett

Are your neighbors sick of your ongoing smoke?

I have great neighbors...I preempt any doubt by 'bribing' them with smoked goodies...now they all want to know when I smoke "can I throw something on for us" Usually comes with a few beers for all the hard work!! My neighbor (also now a friend) allows me to keep my boat at his house (he has...

    Smoking Almonds... Question

I've made straight smoked almonds! I use 2 TBS of EVOO, 2TBS of sea salt with 4 lbs of almonds. Let em sit for few hours then smoke for about ~3 hours @ 225*F. I spread 'em out pretty thin on the trays (18" x 24") and stir 'em every 1/2 hour. I also use bacon flavored or Hickory salt (in lieu...

Utility Cart Holding Cabinet Conversion - Should work well eh?

I built a very similar smoker out of a SS hospital cart. Yours looks very nice. I added a low voltage transformer and a low voltage computer fan in the control box: I would also suggest a little fart fan motor with a steel or aluminum fan blade (for air/smoke/heat circulation) make a huge...

Smoking and drying previously frozen habeneros.

I wouldn't think smoking 'em would be a big deal after freezing? As mentioned it does break down the cell walls so in theory they should dry out quicker? I've used the hot water (not boiling) prior to placing in smoker with good results?! I smoke mine for about 8 hours then dry for another 24...
