Hi all,
I am looking to get rid of a Masterbuilt MES 40 cabinet smoker that I've had for a few years. The digital control unit has crapped out on it for the second time, and I don't feel like dealing with it anymore.
I think a new control unit can be purchased from Masterbuilt. The last time...
I do have the AMPS - it has been fantastic, so cold smoking is a definite possibility.
I'm not exactly the handyman type, but I've done a few things including basic wiring and (sloppy) soldering, and I'm willing to give it a shot if the cost of materials isn't too much. Does anyone know of a...
I've got a 40" MES that I've had for a few years. A bit over a year ago, the digital controls went out on it, so I called the company and paid for a replacement unit. I used the smoker a few times after that, but earlier this year I tried to use it again and once more the control unit has...
Thanks chefwej - my wife actually sent me a link to that one, but I had dismissed it because it didn't look like the dimensions would fit the MES 40. Thanks for letting us know it does actually fit.
Off to Amazon now.
Just what the thread title says. I'm looking to get a cover for my new MES 40. The smoker is under the covered back porch, but I want something to keep the dust and incidental water off of it.
The biggest issue is the cover needs to have a high WAF (Wife Approval Factor). The MES brand cover is...
UPDATE - Well, the 2012 model stayed out of stock for a very long time, and the more new reviews I read the more worried I became about QC on the new model.
I ended up canceling that order and I got the older generation MES 40 instead. My A-MAZE-N Pellet smoker also arrived about a week ago...
Well, Amazon today has the 40 inch 2012 MES for $299 - about $20 cheaper than their price on last year's model. It's on backorder, but at that price I couldn't help but pull the trigger. I have no idea when it will arrive, but I'm looking forward to it. In the meantime, I've got some holiday...
Thanks to you all for the advice. I may have to reconsider the MES - seems like it might be a good bet. My real concern is long term maintenance. Can the element be replaced? Would a failure of the digital thermometer render the thing a brick with a hinged door?
Smokinjoe - that's a pretty...
Hello all,
First post after my Roll Call entry. :-)
First - a little background. I started with a hand-me-down charcoal Brinkman. It worked OK, but I got an electric Brinkman since which has been a fantastic unit. I love the ease of an electric smoker, but clean up and whatnot can be a pain...
Hi all,
It's nice to be here - seems like a very well informed and active forum.
I'd call myself an intermediate level smoker - I've done enough and had good success to feel confidant, but I know I have a lot of room to learn and grow.
I started with a second hand Brinkman Charcoal smoker...
